here are some important dates to take note:

25th july: dry run
1st and 9 aug: preview & actual NDP

What will happen on 1st August and 9th August:

- If there’s extra manpower from the EXCO side, the EXCOs will split into 2 groups for the 2 different days (1/8 and 9/8)

- The circuit has been modified such that there are 5 games for each circuit. Out of the 10 games, 2 games have been modified to better suit the message of SMRT

- EYMs will become the station masters, with 2 at each station.

- Some EXCO will be allocated to look after the SMRT mascot

- The photos taken with the public will be sent to their email.

- Meeting time will be at 130pm. Venue TBC

NOTE! There will be an EXCO meeting on 18th July 2009 (Saturday), 2PM at ECO office.

Dunkit! @ NDP '09!

kicked off for quite awhile already.:D we have started on our programmes for the 2 NDP days, (which will definitely be better than before:D), brainstormed in our discussion for making of souvenirs and came up with new items,( zone cards, bookmarks, and photos!), and redesigned our teeshirts!
currently, we have recruited our EYC(Champions!) and our EYM(Mentors!)
apparently attendance for the EYM briefing was quite bad. out of the 30, only 11 turned up:/ hopefully we will get to see the whole EYM team soon:D must bond!

latest news update:
■ number of EYCs have increased from 150 to 200
■ design for bookmarks is out:D(will upload picts soon!)
■ plans for a "non-work" gathering
■ please bring any unwanted magazines, colour paper, markers during EYC workshop

I am the bearer of good news. I bring good news to everyone. With Volunteers' Appreciation Night out of the way and the delivery of the certificates yesterday and the finishing of DunkIt@Chingay2009 report today, Dunkit@Chingay2009 account is declared closed by me lol.

I received a call today from the certificate printer company to inform me that the PA logo is too pixelated. Thank God I am good in Photoshop. I solved the problem and sent it back to them on the same day. I hope it will be okay. I just grabbed the logo from the net. Argh, this means that the delivery will be pushed back and closing account will be pushed back. zZZz I think everyone's having a break and not doing reports. Enjoy now when you can, NDP09 is coming up. Shall chase them once my exams are over. Meanwhile, readers pls dont expect me to update everyday. I am going to be very busy.

Today, there was a one-page article on littering printed in The New Paper. Sadly, all our efforts will go to waste if people dont start using their brains. We are only one small group. We cannot do it alone. I wish I have the power to brainwash the public too. If only. I wrote a 579 word article about the environment. Apparently, the one major cause is littering and wastage of electricity. Why can't people think? It's not as if they are not educated. Is the advance of technology a good or bad thing? Earth is a place we call our home and everybody has the responsibility to protect it. Technology has allowed us to be lazy - too lazy even to walk to the nearest bin and throw litter. There was one incident where I spotted a kid littering on the ground. The plastic flew as the wind blows. I looked around for the parents to reprimand him. And I was kinda sick when the parents pretend that nothing's happen and I am willing to bet the kid is following the parents' example. What is the world coming to? I dont blame the kid at all. He's too young to discern right from wrong. Parents have the responsibility to teach their kids. I believe I mention responsibility a few times. If one person litters, the rest will follow. No doubt people think that if they dont litter, the cleaners would have nothing to do and it wont be worth their pay. What kind of stupid logic is that? For the future generation's sake, we'd better do our part in saving the Earth.

I have completed the evaluation form which JWS sent me. I rated A* cos I was very happy at the way the event went. Wouldn't have missed it for anything. Now it is time to concentrate in school. NDP09 is coming up in March!
Videos and photographs will be posted when I am very very free, which I am not now. After the event, the org team went crazy and did limbo rock right in front of Arts House. I filmed the entire thing. In actual fact, we were like doing a peaceful demonstration on the both days after events when we carry the billboards and walk all the way from Arts House to ECOsphere. And someone was singing CNY songs. And another one was too high and imitated 'bama. Change - YES WE CAN! I think we've all gone nuts after the event. I have yet to collect photos from other photographers so stay tuned.

To my utter dismay, I just realised the blog is not updated abt the actual event days. LOL
Maybe it was because 30Jan was our first day, maybe it was because our new organising committee was not used to organising a large scale event, the event did not turn out as well as we expected it to. Our organising committee was disheartened by the negative feedbacks by some of the students who compared Chingay09 to NDP08. Different committee, different programme, different results. My mistake was recuiting too many people in the org team - so many that many of them have nothing to do on the day itself. No involvement, no commitment, no initiative=bad results. I will keep that in mind for the next NDP09.
However, for 31Jan, things took a complete turnaround. It was a nice surprise as we have only 24hrs to make a change. But we pulled through, thanks to everyone. All deserve credit. I tagged along with 5 groups. I was very pleased with what I saw in one of the groups. The students were trying their best to translate the questions into Mandarin for the non-English speaking public. They were on their best behaviours at all times and we could see the effort put in. We hope that the feedback we received from this year’s event will benefit the other upcoming DUNKIT events.
Volunteers' Appreciation Night on 21FEB09 6pm-11pm for Org team. Bring presents for gift exchange. Budget from $10-$15. We are going to celebrate Friendship Day.

I found a certificate printer company that is able to meet the budget despite the recession. It is the same as last year's contact woohoo! The account will be closed in no time!

Sent a sample of discharge report to the org team. Discharge report 60% done. I am left with executive summary, event methodology, deployment of participants, Reports for the 3 events and accounts. How awesome! The rest I will just leave it for the EXCO to fill up. 3 more days to the actual event. I am excited. Went to River Hongbao today and saw the seats being set up for the parade. This will be my first time in my life watching Chingay and not through the TV either. Hopefully the feedback will be good. We need encouragement after all the trouble we went through having our brainjuice sucked out xD

Wouldn't want it to drag one month like NDP. Maybe I should start doing the report now. This is one very short post, which is good cos there are no bad things to be said.

It has been one week since I last blog. How busy of me.

2 more days to CNY. 6 more days to Chingay.
Excuse letter has been wrote. Tee shirts have been collected albeit it was very last minute. Let me tell you. I sort of MSN-ed Janet to ask when I could collect the tees. And she said the next day would be fine. So I spent the time from 10pm-12am trying to find guys from EXCO to come and help. Unfortunately, I could only find one guy. I don't blame them. It is too last minute. Thank God Ryal has a Landrover that can store the 3 ultraheavy boxes of tees.

Unfortunately, my schedule is very messed up right now. That is why everything happened so last minute. I might not be able to attend Chingay 30Jan thanks to my lecturer who wants makeup class. As the event draws nearer, I begin thinking about closing up the account. This time, it must be done quickly, before the next NDP09 org team comes up. So everything must be done before April. Lets work hard together to make it happen.

Everyone was bright and early today. I am proud to say, the event went rather well. Xuebing from NEA was here. Mr Chian from JWS was there too. And my role was supposed to entertain them. All they had was good comments. JWS won't be coming on 30Jan. Xuebing won't be coming from 31Jan. I hope everyone of YOU have a lot of fun, cos I certainly did.
(1) Remind me to get Xuebing & Mr Chian a tee shirt each.
(2) I need to ask Mrs Koh if the EXCO can be released early.

I am so confused. There has been new mentors from DHS. Where are the first aiders' particulars? Do I need to send it to Joycelyn for security clearance and for the tees? I am puzzled by Xuebing's email as to the 2 people who will be only attending Chingay for one day as they have school events. I thought we super booked them a long time ago? Are there any replacements? When can we collect the tee shirts? What am I supposed to send and who am I supposed to send? ARGH I am going crazzyy.

The implementation part is always the most fun. The planning part seems to be time-consuming and members tend to be pissed off during discussions when everything is not going their way. Now that all that is over, we just have to have fun ourselves, at the same time, making the event a big success and a memorable one. Here's to 17Jan. The start of our event. The end of the cumbersome planning stage. YAY! We have come a long way from NDP. The EXCO have graduated to Advisors, the Mentors have been promoted to EXCO. Technically speaking, the EYCs should be promoted to EYMs too. But there are just too many EYCs.. NDP committee is gonig to start in Apr. Hopefully, by then the Chingay account would have been closed officially and that the Earthhour event has ended. followed by Re-live! in June.

Action Plan sent out. Will the respective Departments pls look at them to know what you're supposed to do. The action plan is very well done. Very detailed. Apparently, according to Ryal, I did the right thing for PR. So ALLSWELL end well. Lets hope the pre-event on 17Jan turns out to be as awesome as Dunman High School itself! We are everready to welcome the new volunteers to ECO Singapore and show them how cool we are. WE ROCK, EXCO of DunkIt@Chingay09! Too bad Zhikai & Ryal will not be joining us..

There has been a change in location for the volunteers' training workshop this Saturday due to unforeseen circumstances. It will be hosted at Dunman High School instead of Hwa Chong Institution. Bus service:30 have to walk a distance 158 alights directly outside Dunman High School Nearest Mrt station Aljunied Mrt Two of our people will be stationed at the control station at Aljunied Mrt at 7.30am to bring the students who don't know how to go. However, they will be leaving at 8am. They will be holding a sign saying DunkIt@Chingay 2009. The volunteer management team has personally contacted the 13 YEGs through email and sms. Timing & Programme has not changed. Attached is the map to Dunman High for those students whose parents are driving. Sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Oh well, I have tried my best to rectify the problem. Hope I did the right thing. I kept thinking of Public Relations and Corporate Image. I think I am corrupted by my lecturers. Don't know if it is a good thing..

I've been thinking about what Zhikai said. It makes sense. When motivation is down, cost goes up, speed goes down and vice versa. It is just like another mathematics equation. No matter what you do, you must have a passion regarding the project. It is meaningless if you are not interested because then you will not try your best and results will show a half-hearted work. Commitment and efficiency and productivity goes down. Teamwork: Everyone is important. There is NO such thing as one person being more important than the other unless the other person is a freeloader. Credit goes to everyone, not only the Heads.

There has been a slight complication. Some of the DHS people have to leave early on 17Jan due to BSP. The VM will try to split up the groups accordingly. Drafts to JWS & NEA completed. Let's see what it yields. EXCO reporting at 7am at DHS on 17Jan. Really sorry for the inconvenience caused. My bad for not double checking. We've already decided to host it at HCI but just haven't got to booking the lecture theatre yet. "Unforeseen circumstances" I believe I mentioned the various possibilities concerning "what ifs" in the previous posts..

EXCO of DunkIt@Chingay

P.S. My bag is so unglam, if I got time, I'd have photoshop it away.

Today, the EXCO met at Dunman High School for a dry run of the programme on 17Jan. Action plan is going to be sent on Wed. Volunteer Management is going to send emails to volunteers. Logistics have lots of things to buy but no money. Publicity do not need to come on 17Jan if they finish designing lanyards and stuff. Publicity is liaising with the contractor regarding the stationary bins. [Somehow responsilities get pushed from one to another o_O] Programme have to be there to implement the plan on 17Jan. Photographs need to be taken for the discharge report of the event, which include reflections. The report also need to be sent to the sponsors. Admin stuff like accounting, managing the volunteers' database is also a headache.

I like this statement: Humans are the core of the organisations. And if you look beyond the skin, it is the mind and the heart that made things work.

Everyone should read up on Project Management & Organisation Management. Pretty interesting. Without motivation, there will be lesser commitment. Okay, I am going to draft a letter to explain the change of location now. Good Luck to me. tata~

This is officially a new day - 12AM. Tada! A blog post as I promised Yingling to update everyday without fail regardless of how many projects I have. I do not go back on my promise.

Timeline for 30th and 31st
1500 – 1530 Registration
1530 – 1600 Briefing
1600 – 1800 Mobile games activity
1800 – 1830 Report back
1830 – 1930 Dinner
1930 – 2030 Mobile bin activity.
2030 – 2100 Debrief

Excuse letters for students have been sent out. DHS has not gotten back to me. Gotta double check if JWS wants to be excused for the whole day on 30Jan cos logistics will be affected. Hopefully, the co-chairman has come up with the answers to the tough questions posed by me. A contact of the contractor has already been passed to him. It is now up to him to get things rolling. It is not that I am evil and want to challenge the chairman. It is better to be safe than sorry. What if it rained on that day and the designs for the stationary bins get wet? What if we don’t have enough time and manpower to decorate the stationary bins on the actual day? Bear in mind that only HCI students have no school on that day. There are so many what ifs. We should be prepared for as many as them as possible. We don’t want to look unprepared in front of the public. We want to look PROFESSIONAL. There is simply no reason why we shouldn’t do our best, since we already put in so much effort in planning.

If we fail to plan, we plan to fail. This is the one thing I remembered out of a four hour lecture. Pretty cool advice. Play of words and truth in it.

Zhikai has assured me that he’s taken care of the location. Very efficient guy. Love working with him. We make a good team =D. Location will definitely be NOT in HCI. Oh great, time to face the music. Hope everyone is in a good mood when I call the teachers from the various schools to change the venue.

Readers, please take note. Next time you ever plan a project, make sure everything is settled a month before. Don’t be like me, leave things to the last minute and screw things up. The corporate image of the organization you are working for is at risk. Public Relations. I know this, I’ve been drilled so many times because I am a Mass Comm student. So heed my advice, haste make waste. Please learn from my mistakes in planning this event. That is what I am blogging here for. I am NOT blogging for fun. I have better things to do.

Nooooo, I made a serious mistake by informing/reminding all the teachers of volunteers early without confirming everything settled! ARGH, I am in DEEP Trouble with a capital T. What went wrong?!

Hypothesis: No matter how early we start the planning, we always end up procrastinating. This happens everywhere, especially in school. Apparently, we never learn from last year's mistakes. I bet the same things are going to be in the discharge report this year too.

YAY! Dear Org Team, thank you so much for your hard work. It has been a real pleasure working with you all and I hope that we will get to work together again.

Yesterday marks DunkIt@NDP08 Volunteers' Appreciation Night where the organising committee and EYMs were invited to this gathering. It was sort of a potluck where everyone contributes by bringing some food and sharing among ourselves. Not many people came, but it was enough to have a party. The programme was a simple one - dinner, movies, chatting, playing and the most important of all, having fun! I'm sure everyone enjoys themselves tremendously. This event kinda brings a closure to NDP and a new start to DunkIt@Chingay09! Pictures will be uploaded another day.
Today marks a brand new beginning for DunkIt@Chingay09! We had our very first meeting at ECOsphere where Joycelyn from People's Association and Xue Bing from NEA were invited to sit in our meeting. Joycelyn briefed us about the operations regarding Chingay so that we could be more clear in our planning. We also clarified our doubts. I believe that with a great committee like ours, we will have fun working together towards a common goal. Keep it up, guys! Thank you for turning up today and making an effort to be punctual :) Here's to the 4 months of teamwork! The meeting minutes, contact list and the agenda for next meeting will be sent out soon.

After having an enriching experience at DunkIt@NDP08, we are now moving on to DunkIt@Chingay09. Now, here is the PERFECT chance to be the brains behind the scenes.
