OBJECTIVES

1. To act as enforcers during the shows to remind the public to take ownership and dispose off their own litter

2. To do a ground littering survey and access the conditions of the environment

REASONS FOR LITTERING

reason one
by accident

Many people drop their trash with a slip of hand.

reason two
mindset

When one person throws on the floor, the others will follow, and soon people will think that it is okay to litter since everyone else did.

reason three
Filled rubbish bin/ No rubbish bin in sight

Rubbish bins may be filled but no cleaners are around to clear, therefore trash spills out of the bin and dirtying the area around. When no bins are in sight, people also tend to throw their trash on the floor because of convenience

hey people. face the fact.
should there even be excuses
for your litter on the floor? dont kid us.
do your part. STOP LITTERING.
SAVE PLANET EARTH
(and yourself in the process)

BACKGROUND INFO

At almost every major outdoor event in Singapore, spectators and performers alike generally do not consider maintaining the cleanliness of the event venues as one of their top priorities. Often, after the show or the activity has ended, Singaporeans leave the event premises in filthy and unsightly conditions, leaving the cleaning up to ‘someone else’. To redress such attitudes, ECO Singapore has identified Singaporean youth as key agents in cultivating proper environmental behaviour in Singaporeans.

As the future stakeholders of Singapore, our youths should and would want a clean and green future in which to live, work and play. Such motivation should make them concerned about the current state of cleanliness of Singapore’s public spaces. To help Singaporean youths crystallise their environmental concern into meaningful actions, ECO Singapore has developed the “ECO Youth Champions”(EYCs) initiative. This initiative will mobilise Singaporean youth to make sure that their family members and the public dispose of their trash properly in major outdoor events. The EYCs initiative will thus empowered our youth to directly influence their families and the public to do their part in protecting our environment.

I have completed the evaluation form which JWS sent me. I rated A* cos I was very happy at the way the event went. Wouldn't have missed it for anything. Now it is time to concentrate in school. NDP09 is coming up in March!
Videos and photographs will be posted when I am very very free, which I am not now. After the event, the org team went crazy and did limbo rock right in front of Arts House. I filmed the entire thing. In actual fact, we were like doing a peaceful demonstration on the both days after events when we carry the billboards and walk all the way from Arts House to ECOsphere. And someone was singing CNY songs. And another one was too high and imitated 'bama. Change - YES WE CAN! I think we've all gone nuts after the event. I have yet to collect photos from other photographers so stay tuned.
This is Keshia hoping that her Freshmen Orientation Camp will be as fun.
